Senior Java Developer at BUX (Amsterdam, Netherlands)
3d

Please note: We only relocate from Europe (Including Russia and Ukraine), and North and South America.

Who we are

We’re BUX, a tech company that is rocking the world of finance. By taking down all barriers and disrupting the trading experience, we're helping new generations of first-time investors to discover the financial markets. We launched our first app back in 2014 and have welcomed over 1.7 million users across Europe since then. We’re now building a full fledged stockbroker, in order to support multiple investment apps. In parallel we’re working on a second app. Our first app is mainly targeting short term traders, whereas the new app will offer long term investing. Our end goal is to offer a family of apps, catering to everyone who wants to do more with his or her money.

About the team

Engineering is the heart of our business and we have a really experienced tech team. Between the CTO and our tech leads, there are several decades of development experience. This is one of the smartest teams you'll have the chance to work in. It will help you push yourself to the next level.

Why will you enjoy working for BUX?

  • You'll design, build, and maintain a system that is meant to scale. We went from 1000 to 1.5 million users with barely any hiccups. (Learn how we're doing it.)

  • You'll work with an actor-based framework (similar to Akka), that is central to everything we do, and the heart of the scalability of our system.

  • We have a trading app that is accessible 24/7. We have very small maintenance window, so from a DevOps perspective you'll have the opportunity to think, plan, and execute the best ways to deploy our services.

  • Lastly, the business domain is interesting. You will learn how the financial system works on the inside.

What is the cherry on top?

  • Latest and greatest tech equipment;

  • Conference & training budget to boost your professional development;

  • The possibility to work from abroad for 1 month every 12 months;

  • Cool office in the heart of Amsterdam (10 mins from Central Station);

  • Bi-weekly Hackathons, weekly drinks, fun company events;

  • Margy’s famous lunches;

  • Competitive salary and Employee Option Plan.

We expect to see:

  • Proactive, self-starting, can-do mentality.

  • Proficiency in Java, with strong object-oriented design skills;

  • Working knowledge of the Spring framework;

  • An Agile mindset and working knowledge of the Scrum framework;

  • Experience with DevOps tools and procedures.

We like to see (but not required):

  • Experience with building scalable (clustered) systems;

  • Experience with puppet, messaging systems, Elasticsearch, Kafka, Cassandra, and RabbitMQ;

  • Knowledge of reactive, actor-based systems.

Cryptocurrency Software Engineer. at Pyrofex Corporation (Orem, UT)
6d

Wanted: Cryptocurrency Software Engineer

Are you interested in working with a hard-core team of brilliant engineers on a technology that could change the world? Tired of corporate awareness training, pointless meetings, bloviating managers, and political games? Looking for an environment that hires great engineers, gives them the tools to do great things, and expects them to do so?

Pyrofex is hiring. Come do your best work.

ABOUT US

Pyrofex Corporation is one of Utah Valley's newest cryptocurrency startups. Founded in the Spring of 2016 by ex-Googlers Mike Stay and Nash Foster, Pyrofex is working hard to create the next-generation of blockchain platforms and decentralized applications.

ABOUT YOU

At Pyrofex, we hire for strength, and not for lack of weakness. We hire for capability and talent, not specific knowledge of a tool or language. We believe real innovation requires constant learning and learning requires constant failure. Nobody learns to ride a bike until they skin their knee. One of our founders has a Ph.D., but the other one dropped out of college. (Twice!) The path we've taken to get this far is unique and we suspect the same will be true of our best employees.

Pyrofex hires engineers at all levels of experience—from current students, to recent graduates, to academics, to engineers with decades of experience. We are particularly interested in programmers that have knowledge of functional programming, a background in computer science, and can program in Scala. However, if you think this job is a fit for you, we're willing to take a look.

ABOUT THE JOB We are currently hiring Software Engineers to help us deliver on a new blockchain platform as well as a Decentralized Integrated Development Environment (DIDE). Developers on these teams will design, implement, test deploy and manage large-scale global software systems. Ideal candidates will have experience in web dev, backend dev, Linux/Unix programming compilers and distributed systems. Experience with formal verification is a plus, but not required.

Design and architecture requires you to work well with others, take their amorphous sets of needs and use cases, and distill these into written designs and specifications. Good implementations require a fastidious attention to detail, knowledge of your programming tools, and the ability to produce working, correct code on the regular. Pyrofex builds cryptocurrency systems and large-scale distributed and decentralized applications. Five years ago, we thought things like SRE and DevOps would make it clear what "deploy and manage" meant for the future, and now we know we were wrong. The future is changing too fast and our job is to try to keep up. That said, from time to time, we all have to get out of bed at 2AM to deal with something broken.

If this sounds good to you, then e-mail us at jobs@pyrofex.net with the subject line, "AWWWWWW YEAH SIGN ME UP." We would like to see a resume or your linkedin profile. We would enjoy a cover letter in which you tell us about your work ethic and your favorite project. If you can send us examples of your code, that would be most excellent.

Web Developer at Pyrofex Corporation (Provo, UT)
1w

Web Developer

We are searching for the best of the best in Software Development, seeking to build our team of brilliant and determined engineers working hard to build new technology in a field that is still being discovered.  Pyrofex is an environment where working hard is an assumption, challenges are expected, and managing minimal.

About Us

Pyrofex Corporation is one of Utah Valley’s newest cryptocurrency startups.  Founded in the Spring of 2016 by engineer Nash Foster and mathematician Mike Stay, Pyrofex is working to develop software that will run on cryptocurrency platforms and with smart contracts.  Starting from scratch, we’re making possibilities into realities in the fields of blockchain, cryptocurrency, and smart contracts.

The growth and development of people is the highest calling of leadership, which is understood and lived by our leaders.  All of our managers have a tech background, which allows them to truly understand projects, expectations, and struggles of each engineer.  High expectations are maintained, micromanaging is avoided, and everyone works together to stay on task and on time.

About You

At Pyrofex, we evaluate candidates based upon their skills and intelligence.  We look for potential as much as we look for experience. We know, particularly in a new field of technology, learning experiences are a fact of life.  We all make mistakes, we all struggle, and sometimes we all have to put in the over time to make it work.

Pyrofex hires individuals at all levels of experience.  We know that you are your best investment, and therefore, you are our best investment.  We expect all of our employees to increase their skills and abilities as they contribute to each project as a whole, and we will help and encourage them to do so.  However, strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle; some projects and assignments come easy, while others you have to push through. We all have moments where we wonder how we are going to overcome the next challenge.

About the Job

We are currently hiring web developers to help us with our projects. Developers on this team will design, implement, test, deploy, and manage web sites using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and other technologies.

Developing something new requires you to be self-motivated on individual assignments, and work well with a team, communicating your progress and needs clearly and efficiently.  We are swimming in new water and therefore surprises come, assignments change quickly, and instructions are limited. Great developers will flourish in these situations and find joy in working through the mud.

If this sounds good to you, then email us at jobs@pyrofex.net with the subject line, "LET ME BUILD IT!!!!!" We would like to see a resume or your linkedin profile. We would enjoy a cover letter in which you tell us about your work ethic and your favorite project. If you can send us examples of your code, that would be most excellent.

While our company does offer some remote positions, this is NOT a remote position, and we will only consider candidates who are from the Utah area.

  • Latest and greatest tech equipment;

  • Conference & training budget to boost your professional development;

  • The possibility to work from abroad for 1 month every 12 months;

  • Cool office in the heart of Amsterdam (10 mins from Central Station);

  • Bi-weekly Hackathons, weekly drinks, fun company events;

  • Margy’s famous lunches;

  • Competitive salary and Employee Option Plan.

We expect to see:

  • Proactive, self-starting, can-do mentality.

  • Proficiency in Java, with strong object-oriented design skills;

  • Working knowledge of the Spring framework;

  • An Agile mindset and working knowledge of the Scrum framework;

  • Experience with DevOps tools and procedures.

DevOps / DevSecOps Engineer at (Poly)Swarm Technologies, Inc (San Diego, CA)
1w
Join the Swarm

At Swarm Technologies, Inc, we're developing innovative solutions to age-old information security problems - and we need your help.

At its core, PolySwarm is market design enabled by Ethereum smart contracts. We are (literally) programming a marketplace that will produce crowdsourced threat intelligence (malware detection today, more tomorrow).

You're in on the ground floor - you'll have a say in what we do and how we do it. By joining Swarm Technologies, you'll be joining a dynamic team on the bleeding edge of information (computer) security and blockchain - answering questions few have thought to ask.

As a Dev(Sec)Ops Engineer at PolySwarm, you will be critical to making PolySwarm a reality. Senior hires will be entrusted with broad decision-making responsibility concerning infrastructure, deployment, scale, access control, continuous integration and much, much more. This is unique opportunity to shape DevOps processes for a growing company in an exciting intersection between Information Security (InfoSec) and Blockchain technology.

Current Real-World Challenges

* We need to securely provision, revoke and manage secrets: SSH & API keys, Ethereum wallets and more. These secrets are used in various contexts by our various projects. How do we provision access in a seamless manner that scales with the number of authentication methods a given individual requires?
* Is a blue / green paradigm best for deploying (and upgrading) various test networks ("testnets") used for onboarding security experts to our platform? These testnets run Ethereum chains & isolated IPFS nodes, among other things. If this paradigm is desirable, how do we best go about implementing it?
* We need to manage access and load balance requests across various testnets & "sidechains" with partially overlapping user sets. It would be great if this load balancing was hidden behind a single highly available REST endpoint and traffic was routed to the correct place based on the URI e.g. GET //. How should we load balance such requests, handle authorization and ensure the availability of the endpoint?
* Our build process for release binaries is manual at the moment. We'd like to produce Electron applications for Windows, macOS and Linux automatically, tied to our CI process and specific branch naming convention. How do we best accomplish this? How should we best manage CI processes across multiple OSes?

Notes on our Current Process

* Development has been migrated from an internal GitLab instance to GitHub: https://github.com/polyswarm
* Continuous Integration is still being handled by GitLab external CI with webhooks into our various GitHub repos
* Due to the complexity and interconnectedness of our various projects, our CI process must conduct "end-to-end" testing involving many projects: https://github.com/polyswarm/e2e
* If CI checks pass, CI auto-publishes various Docker images to Docker Hub: https://hub.docker.com/u/polyswarm/
* Tools / technologies / services in use include: Docker, Docker Compose, Docker Hub, Terraform, GitLab CI, DigitalOcean, AWS, Azure, NGINX

We have plenty of room for improvement. What would you change about our process? Best ideas win; we look forward to hearing yours!

The Ideal Candidate Is...

  1. Independently motivated & self-directing

  2. Introspective: able to identify weak spots / problem areas our existing processes or code and suggest / implement solutions

  3. Takes an interest in information security topics - huge props for Capture the Flag (CTF) participation!

  4. Holds at least a BS in Computer Science or related field

  5. (Senior level): 5 years of relevant work experience

We Offer

  • Competitive salaries

  • Excellent health, dental, vision coverage

  • Unlimited* paid vacation days

  • Travel (if you like). We have offices in San Diego, Puerto Rico and Tokyo and we often find ourselves travelling elsewhere. If travel interests you, we can scratch that itch.

  • Flexible work hours - outside of scheduled meetings, we don't care *when* you work, we care about your output.

  • Powerful servers, laptops, desktops - whatever you need to be most productive!

*Within reason! We avoid arbitrary numbers for vacation allotments. Take what you need, don't abuse it. As a start-up, we may ask that you avoid vacation for crunch times.

 In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.

Software Developer at (Poly)Swarm Technologies, Inc (San Diego, CA)
1w

At Swarm Technologies, Inc, we're developing innovative solutions to age-old information security problems - and we need your help.

At it's core, PolySwarm is market design enabled by Ethereum smart contracts. We are (literally) programming a market that will produce crowdsourced threat intelligence (malware detection today, more tomorrow).

** Blockchain experience not required! **

We're operating in a very new industry and we're prepared to bring candidates up to speed! Few sectors are hot as blockchain right now - talk about professional growth :) No one has done this before. We'll get things wrong - and that's okay! With your help, we'll get fewer things wrong, identify mistakes earlier and improve processes to prevent future missteps.

You're in on the ground floor - you'll have a say in what we do and how we do it. By joining Swarm Technologies, you'll be joining a dynamic team on the bleeding edge of information (computer) security and blockchain - answering questions few have thought to ask.

If you're interested in any of:

  1. technical challenges that cannot be solved via iteration

  2. blockchain (Ethereum smart contracts in particular)

  3. information security

  4. malware reverse engineering

  5. market design (a la Who Gets What and Why by Alvin Roth)

  6. unknown unknowns

... then we're interested in you.

The Ideal Candidate Is...

  1. independently motivated & self-directing

  2. introspective: able to identify weak spots / problem areas our existing processes or code and suggest / implement solutions

  3. takes an interest in information security topics - huge props for capture the flag (CTF) participation!

At Swarm Technologies, you'll tackle both big-picture and tactical problems, the following are a few examples.
Example Big-Picture Problems
The Ethereum block time leaves a lot to be desired for a marketplace that intends to supplant millions of malware scans a day.

How do we best reconcile millions of scans daily with a 15 second block time and today's block size limits?

In sum: PolySwarm must scale and must support scanning artifacts (files) that may contain confidential information. How do we best reconcile these needs with a default-public, Proof-of-Work Ethereum ecosystem?

Example Tactical Problem
PolySwarm is a twist on a prediction market - where security experts attempt to "predict" whether a file / URL or network traffic is malicious or benign. Alongside their prediction ("assertion"), experts "stake" a configurable amount of Nectar (NCT), PolySwarm's crypto token.

Suppose Expert A is lazy and Expert B is a hardworking, upstanding security expert. It would be bad if Expert A was able to simply duplicate the assertions coming from Expert B, exploiting Expert B's hard work for profit. If assertions are placed directly on the public Ethereum blockchain, Expert A can do exactly that.

How can we design a system that keeps the assertion secret (so Expert B is out of luck) until some configured time, after which assertions are revealed and payouts distributed appropriately?

Software Engineer in Formal Verification at Pyrofex Corporation (Provo, UT)
2w

Are you interested in working with a hard-core team of brilliant engineers on technologies that will change the world? Tired of corporate awareness training, pointless meetings, bloviating managers, and political games? Looking for an environment that hires great engineers, gives them the tools to do great things, and expects them to do so?

ABOUT US

Pyrofex Corporation is one of Utah Valley’s newest cryptocurrency startups. Founded in the Spring of 2016 by ex-Googlers Mike Stay and Nash Foster, Pyrofex is working hard to create the next-generation of blockchain platforms and decentralized applications.

ABOUT YOU

You’re passionate about writing great software and improving your craft. You have a tremendous work ethic, a solid background in computer science, and an understanding of what it takes to solve complex problems. You’re the kind of engineer that digs into a problem and goes as deep as needed to find the solution. You know that a one-line fix can be perfect if it’s the right line of code. You want to work with a team of people who are just like yourself because you want to learn, grow, and succeed with people who believe in the power of software.

ABOUT THE JOB

Pyrofex Corporation is seeking a software engineer to analyze the next generation of blockchain algorithms and cryptocurrencies.  You would be responsible for doing a wide range of work in formal verification of the software, including safety and liveness analysis of proof-of-stake consensus algorithms, security analysis of smart contracts, writing formal specifications in a language like K framework, Maude, or Agda, and proving that implementations match the spec.

If this sounds good to you, then send your resumes to jobs@pyrofex.net.  We would enjoy a cover letter in which you tell us about your work ethic and your favorite project. If you can send us examples of your code, that would be most excellent.

Cryptocurrency integration specialist (C/C++) at Core Data () (allows remote)
2w

Overview
CoreData has an immediate opening for software developers with prior experience in cryptocurrency wallet integrations. Our codebase already has functioning integrations with major cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, ERC20 tokens, Dash, etc., and we are looking to add support for every coin on the "top 100" list at https://coinmarketcap.com/ with future goals to add select entries beyond the top 100. The desired integration technique would involve plugging in each currency to a common abstract interface so that common functions like creating a transaction, making a new address, and verifying payments can be done against any currency using the same interface.

Developers who already have functioning integrations with some or all of the top 100 can negotiate a one-off sale of that codebase with ongoing work being available for any other coins not already functioning in the initial group. Integration specialists who complete the list of integrations with well-performing and clean code within a reasonable time frame will be offered the opportunity to continue with ongoing crypto-related programming work.

Employment structure
Our company uses a contractor model. Developers work from home at hours of their choosing on a full time basis unless otherwise negotiated (40 hours per week.) Full time ongoing work is available as well as a one-off purchase of existing code if the applicant is offering an already working wallet integration.

Our Stack
Our development stack is centered around C and includes the following key technologies:

  • C 14

  • Boost

  • Beast

  • MySQL

  • Witty (for DB abstraction)

  • ZeroMQ

  • Google Test

We have an automated build procedure using a combination of a virtual machine and Docker containers. The company provides a Docker container with all stack requisites and includes pre-loaded so that you can start compiling code after the brief wait that is needed to clone the container for the first time. Although we have a complex stack, getting started with it is quite easy as it is well documented (both at a Wiki as well as source code level).

Rust Software Engineer at Pyrofex Corporation (Orem, UT)
3w

Cryptocurrency Software Engineer

Your opportunity to work with a team of brilliant engineers developing world-changing technology is here—seize it!

Are you tired of boring corporate awareness trainings, pointless meetings, bloviating managers, and political games? At Pyrofex, we do things differently: we hire great engineers, give them the tools to do great things, and expect them to do so. We are invested in each team members growth and foster a workplace that celebrates accomplishments and hard work.

Pyrofex is hiring. Show us your best work.

About Us

Pyrofex Corporation is changing the blockchain game and quickly growing a world-class team to do it. As Utah Valley’s first cryptocurrency startup, founded in 2016 by ex-Googlers Mike Stay and Nash Foster, Pyrofex is busy creating next-generation blockchain platforms that are simple, secure, and always reliable. We take pride in our work. We set high expectations for everyone, from our founders to each team member, and as a result we deliver extraordinary products and services.

At Pyrofex, we hire for strength, not for lack of weakness. We hire for capability and talent.  We hire people who have a passion for quality and innovation. Each team member achieves great things in an environment supporting both independence and collaboration.

About You

You collaborate well with others to design and architect our complex systems. You take the amorphous sets of needs and use cases and distill these into written designs and specifications. You demonstrate a fastidious attention to detail, knowledge of your programming tools, and the ability to regularly produce working, correct code.

Pyrofex hires engineers at all levels of experience—from current students to engineers with decades of experience. After all, one of our founders has a Ph.D., and the other dropped out of college, twice! The path we've taken to get this far is unique and we suspect the same will be true of our best employees.

We are most interested in hiring programmers with knowledge of functional programming, a background in computer science, and can program in Scala. However, if you think this job is for you, we'll take a look.

About the Job

Our Software Engineers will help us deliver various products and platforms, which are written in Scala, C/C , Python, Rust, and JavaScript. The engineers on this team will design, implement, test, deploy, and manage a large-scale global software system using Linux and the JVM. Pyrofex builds cryptocurrency systems and large-scale distributed and decentralized applications.

Five years ago, we thought things like SRE and DevOps would make it clear what "deploy and manage" meant for the future, but now we know we were wrong. The future is changing too fast and our job is to keep up. That said, from time to time, we all have to get out of bed at 2AM to deal with something broken.

If this sounds good to you, then e-mail us at jobs@pyrofex.net with the subject line, “SIGN ME UP!” and your resume or linkedin profile. We would also enjoy a cover letter telling us about your work ethic and your favorite project. If you can send us examples of your code, that would be most excellent.
